How Long Does Heartburn Last

Posted by Guest on February 14th, 2010

Heartburn - what does it feel like? Heartburn is a burning sensation behind the breastbone (sternum) that can be mild or cause severe discomfort. If you’re experiencing heartburn, particularly if you’ve never had it before, you may be wondering, how long does heartburn last?

Unfortunately, there is no given time frame for heartburn. Each episode may last for only a few minutes, but for others, it can cause major problems which can last for months or sometimes, years. In severe cases, episodes can last for several days, but in a lot of cases they can last just a few minutes. Heartburn that occurs frequently over several months may indicate that you have a more serious condition, known as gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD).

How long does heartburn last; this depends on a number of factors. A primary indicator of how long your symptoms may last are down to the underlying cause of the heartburn. If you have GERD, your symptoms may last longer because the lower esophageal sphincter isn’t functioning properly, which allows stomach acids to creep up into your esophagus.Added pressure on the stomach for e.g. through obesity or pregnancy will cause heartburn for a longer period.

If your heartburn is a matter of eating spicy foods, it’s not likely to last as long as heartburn caused by other underlying conditions. A time span of several hours is usually adequate to eliminate heartburn due to foods, although minor lingering pain can continue for a day or two. Once the offending foods have been given the opportuntiy to digest, the heartburn should go away.

Until the cause is identified and treated, there are many of you who will experience frequent attacks. For others, it will simply come and go. Certain types of foods can trigger heartburn for some people as their bodies digest different foods differently. If you can eliminate these foods, then this may help in the number of episodes you suffer from.

The contribution of certain foods can bring on an heartburn episode. Chocolate, spicy or hot foods and saucy foods are common culprits. Start by keeping track of the foods you’ve eaten recently prior to each attack and begin eliminating them one by one. Alcohol and caffeine can also contribute to heartburn, as well as certain medications, so keep tabs on everything you ingest prior to heartburn attacks.
You should seek medical advice if your heartburn lasts longer than several days or does not respond to antacids. In some cases, more serious conditions, including heart attack, can be disregarded as heartburn. Differentiating between angina and heartburn symptoms is very important especially if you are at risk of heart conditions as you need to know when to seek medical attention.

Heartburn - how long does it last? Is a frequent question by many sufferers?” Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to this question. Different remedies will work differently on each individual as we all respond differently. This is also the case for the time length of the episode as we all act differently. Fortunately, there is natural help on the market today to help to decrease the severity of the number of heartburn episodes you experience.

Fitness Training for Beginners

Posted by Guest on January 2nd, 2010

The start of a new year always brings out the resolutionists who use it as a motivator to try to get in shape and lose weight. Why people have to wait until January to begin exercising is rather disconcerting, as any day of the year is a good time to begin a fitness training program. Motivation is key. If you are not willing to work on your fitness today then chances are you will not be exercising much past January either.

So what does it take to begin exercising? It could be that you working out is something that you have never done. Then the best place to start is in your neighborhood and simply find the time to walk briskly 30 minutes a day. You should always strive to keep building the intensity as you progress through your daily workouts. Find a hill and incorporate it into your workout twice a week. Picking up the pace by jogging a little will help. You should always be striving for improvement. You should know that simply walking the same pace each day will not help build your body up.

There are lots of people who like going to a gym. There is a benefit to having so much fitness equipment at your disposal. Working out around other people can be very motivating. Your fitness goals can be achieved with the help of a fitness trainer. Typically you meet once or twice a week and they develop a fitness plan for you to follow. They show you how to perform the exercises and they monitor your progress. Exercise classes are available for attending. Some of the popular classes are weight lifting, indoor cycling, Pilates and yoga. There are tons of cross-training activities like basketball and swimming available. If you have the interest and money then a fitness gym can be a great place to begin your fitness workout program.

You can work out at home if you prefer to exercise alone. The television is littered with commercials extolling the virtues of all kinds of equipment for home exercise. Typically simple is usually best until you decide exactly what your fitness goals are. For people just starting out a decent exercise DVD is a good place to start. You want to make sure you are concentrating on cardiovascular activities as well as muscle training. Purchasing home fitness equipment is not necessarily important as you can derive as much benefit by doing those old-fashioned exercises like push-ups, sit-ups and other muscle building and cardiovascular exercises that you learned in gym class. A DVD can assist you in the beginning. Working out your whole body is important.

The main thing is that motivation is what getting fit is all about. Getting out there and moving is what it will take to get in shape, get fit and lose weight. If you are not motivated then purchasing expensive fitness equipment or joining a cool gym will not do much good.

Easy Ways To Stay Motivated And Get Fit

Posted by Guest on December 29th, 2009

Perhaps you have been through this type of thing before where by you have decided to improve your health and fitness and in the beginning you felt really motivated. Maybe you watched an inspiring film that prompted you to take action, perhaps a friend of yours you hadn’t seen for a while turned up having lost a lot of weight or having gained significant muscle mass or perhaps you were just fed up of feeling lethargic and unfit. After the original stimulus you exercised for a while.

However after sometime your motivation dropped off, you allowed your work to takeover, you got frustrated at your perceived lack of progress and gradually bit by bit you quit your healthy lifestyle. If that all sounds familiar then here are a few easy ways to help regain and sustain your motivation for a healthier lifestyle:

Try setting an enjoyable goal. For example, consider planning out a mountain biking/kayaking/hiking trip in an amazing area of the earth like the the Canadian Rockies, The Andes or The Alps. Now with this trip in your future plans you really do have something to aim for. You should try to be in the best physical shape possible so that you may enjoy your trip as much as possible. If your trip is in 5 montsh time then you can plan a realistic schedule with your fitness goals in mind.

Join in with a local event. I’m sure there are plenty of local events you can get involved with if you just look online. Target one of these events as a goal to aim for. Inform a close friend of yours about your future intentions so they can act as a buddy and provide encouragement to you and come to support you on the day.

Take up a sport or hobby, this doesn’t have to be an ultra serious thing just a light hearted game of soccer or hockey at the weekends but it gives you an easy and enjoyable way to monitor your fitness levels. Of course the initial couple of sessions may be very taxing but you will soon notice an improvement and start to look and feel better.

Visualise. Although this may sound a little strange at first, find a few minutes every day to draw a picture in your imagination of exactly how you want your life to be. Doing this sends a powerful mesage to your sub conscious about what decisions you should be making during your day. Continue to do this and your behaviour will begin to modify itself naturally to lead you towards your goals. Many top athletes use techniques such as this simply becuase it brings great results.

Try to involve your family, friends and pet dog too. You are much less likely to lose interest and quit the more people that are involved. You are much less likely to not go and exercise if your friend is on the other end of the phone asking where you are.

Educate yourself. Be curious find out about how to build muscle up, find out how to get a 6 pack, find out how to shed pounds, find out what muscle building nutrition you need for no nonsense muscle building and so on. By increasing your knowledge you are more likely to succeed and more likely to reach your goal quicker aswell and therefore more likely to stay motivated.

Never compare yourself to other people. No matter who you are there is always going to be someone bigger stronger fitter, leaner sexier or whatever. Acknowledge this fact and realise that we all travel through this life process each from our own different perspectives. Pay more attention to how you feel than to anything else, if you feel good then you are likely getting healthier.

So, with those tips in mind go hit the gym and do whatever it is that you enjoy doing to keep fit, build lean muscle mass or whatever else you want to do, you can do it, just keep it fun. The following is highly recommended for lean muslc growth burn the fat build the muscle book.

The Reasons Why You Won’t Get Six Pack Abs

Posted by Guest on November 27th, 2009

There is nobody who wouldn’t like to get a set of six pack abs. Wanting something is very different from actually getting something. Getting a six pack involves following a pattern of effective strategies.

Many people think that just by doing abdominal exercises, they will lose waist fat. This is the wrong way to do things. Yes abdominal exercises are a requirement, but they are only one piece of the jigsaw. You will be required to join up the other pieces in order to get what you want.

The first step that you need to take a look at is cardiovascular training. If you want to burn calories, it is these types of exercises that you need to be doing. The fat around your waist is there because of excessive calorie consumption. Only by getting rid of the fat, will you make your abdominal muscles visible.

Engaging in cardiovascular training will burn a lot of calories off your body. This means doing cardio workouts 3-4 times a week, with each session lasting a minimum of 20 minutes. If this is too high a level for you at the present time, then you can start off slow and build yourself up to it.

Healthy eating will make a massive difference to the quality of your results. It’s pointless motivating yourself to train unless you change your diet to go along with it. Stop eating rubbish.

You will also need to change how you eat. Instead of feeding on 3 big meals a day, start to eat 5 or 6 smaller meals a day. Eating in this way helps your metabolism to burn calories with far more ease.

You will need to continue to do some abs training if you want that set of six pack abs. Do not just spend hours a week doing hundreds of crunches or sit ups. Do less reps but make the reps harder by using weights.

An additional point is to target your stomach with different types of exercises. Try to target the core area from various angles with different exercises for the waist area. This will work different muscles and give you a far superior all round look once the fat has gone.

Six pack abs are in your reach, if these principles are followed.

Don’t Pick The Wrong Exercises to Remove Tummy Fat

Posted by Guest on November 27th, 2009

When it comes to removing tummy fat, it is easy to fall into the trap of picking the wrong exercises. This is something you should steer clear of.

The first thing is, if you are not used to doing any exercise, then it’s not going to be easy. You will be putting in a lot of effort in losing the fat, so it’s only natural that you want to be doing the exercises which are going to be most beneficial to you.

Secondly if you pick the wrong exercises, you will not get results as quickly as you want. This can ruin your belief in yourself because you will plant a strong idea in your mind which suggests that you cannot lose weight. This generally makes people pack it in.

At the end of the day almost everyone has the ability forgetting rid of tummy fat. The real problem is rarely to do with genetic makeup, or the desire to work at it. A lot of people who fail to lose their fat tummy do so because they pick the wrong way to go about it.

Lots of people make the mistake of thinking that performing abdominal exercises will help them get rid of stomach fat. This idea is a mistake. Although doing abdominal exercises will help make your abs stronger than they are, they won’t get rid of the fat on your stomach.

To help you get rid of the stomach fat the best exercises you can do are cardio workouts. It’s true that most cardio exercises do not have a direct impact on your stomach muscles, but they do have a major impact on fat. Keep in mind that it’s the fat on your stomach which makes it look like it does. You cannot choose to just lose fat from your stomach. Cardio training will have the biggest imact on fat loss, including the stomach area.

You choose which cardio workout you want to do. You have plenty to choose from, but make sure that you don’t pick one that you are going to hate. This means you will find it really hard every time you try to work out. Alter your exercises when training, this will stop your cardio training becoming a bore. The benefits of doing different ones is that it will stop boredom, plus it will also target different muscles.

Some of the best exercises for removing tummy fat should include some of the following.

Rowing exercises are good for burning tons of calories. You should really consider this exercise as you use your entire body to do it. Play some music, plug your headphones in and lose yourself while you are training.

Training with an exercise bike is a great way to get rid of calories. Why not watch television, read a book, or listen to some music whilst training.

Running is also a good calorie burner, but you may want to leave the magazine at home for this one, and don’t use earphones if you are running on the street.

You could also jump rope. This is such an underused exercise, because it seems so simple and the equiment is cheap. However it is a very effective fitness and calorie burning tool.

So you see there are numerous exercises to help you rid yourself of your fat tummy. Just make sure that you vary your training. If you stick to the plan, you will begin to see a change in your body a lot sooner than you may think.

Are Elliptical Trainers a Good Choice When Trying To Lose Weight?

Posted by Amanda Jocks on November 9th, 2009

People are very health conscious and appearance conscious these days. So an elliptical, which is one of the best exercise equipments, would be a welcome addition to everybody’s home. As far as there is no space constraints to get one fixed in your home, make sure to go in for one.

An elliptical is only the more conventional treadmill in its next evolutionary stage. Both running and walking can be simulated on the machine. It is such an all purpose fitness equipment that a workout on it will exercise every muscle in an individuals body. An attractive feature of the elliptical trainer is the fact that joints sustain minimal damage and discomfort by exercising on it.

While exercising on the elliptical is an ideal cardio workout, it does not promote muscle-building. Some models have to be connected to the power to work, while some have built in power arrangements. Yet others may need power supply for the resistance to be adjusted. At an added cost you can also have models with extra features that can restrict exercising to the upper part or lower part of the body.

The cardio workout benefits are at the base of the popularity of an elliptical. Another reason for its popularity is the fact that the joints remain unharmed by exercising on it and also the add-on features it has got. Because of the variety of options it gives, the user can calculate in advance as to how to set it in a way in which the workout would result in sufficient calorie burn out. If you set it to exercise only part of the body, the calorie burn out would obviously be lesser than when you set it to exercise the whole body.

There is a pretty wide range of elliptical trainers to choose from, customized to suit individual requirements. Some of them do a really fine job, though there could be budgetary constraints in opting for it. A commercial elliptical trainer is definitely costlier than a home model, but they do a better job as well. Commercial models last so long that an investment in it would be worth it, so far as you can afford it. There could also be other things to be taken into consideration like your body’s requirements, and your homes space constraints. Balance all these rightly and choose the most suitable model.

Before making an elliptical machine purchase, just visit my elliptical fitness equipment blog for the latest news and info on the subject. Today’s pick: Schwinn Elliptical Trainer.

What Is Muay Thai and a Muay Thai Bag?

Posted by Jonathon Hardcastle on November 9th, 2009

Muay Thai is a popular martial arts form from Indochina. It has become a very popular sport in Thailand and other areas of the south pacific. Modern Muay Thai is primarly a ring sport, using gloves that are similar to western boxing gloves. Muay Thai is a common part of mixed martial arts training as well and many MMA trainers now use Muay Thai bags in their facilities.

The primary idea behind Muay Thai is that there are not two, not four but eight different places on the body that can be used to attack the opponent. The hands and feet make up four and the other four are made up by savage attacks from the elbow and knee.

Because of the unique types of attacks, training equipment for Muay Thai has to be specialized. The Muay Thai bag is a special type of hanging heavy bag that was developed to meet the needs of practicers of this martial art form.

When compared to a traditional boxing bag, a Muay Thai bag is longer and thinner. Bag height is usually between five and six feet long; this length accommodates to high and low kicks and punches. For the ongoing and easy practice of holds, the diameter of this bag is similar to a person.

The bag itself falls into the standard weight range of most heavy boxing bags. With an average weight of at least eighty five pounds, these bags are designed to accommodate most fighters and the variety of blows.

Unlike other heavy bags, many Muay Thai bags are shipped to gyms and at home users unfilled. This allows an experienced Muay Thai trainer to customize the filling of the bag the way the feel should be optimal.

Muay Thai bags are hanging heavy bags but are subject to more force than typical hanging boxing bags. Because of this, each Muay Thai trainer has a different idea of how to fill the bag. Most trainers fill the bottom of the bag with sand because it is dense and will keep the bag from moving if that mass is centered low.

After that sand, the bag is usually filled with rags, rice, or flour. Each of these potential fillings has a reason for being included. Flour is nice because it does have a similar feel to sand; rag cloths easily absorb hits, and rice is a good in-between.

Muay Thai is an exciting sport that combines blows like no other on the planet. It is no wonder that they have developed specialized equipment to practice with and that this equipment is found in gyms around the world, including Muay Thai heavy bags in some of the premier MMA training facilities.

Want the best boxing bag stand for your next Heavy Bag? We can help.
