The Houston Texans Bounce Back in Week Two
The Houston Texans were the trendy pick at the start of the 09′ season. The Houston Texans never had expectations this high before in the franchises 7 year history. I guess they have the right to set expectations this high after a solid performance in 2008, with a very young team.
While the Indianapolis Colts still own the AFC South division, the Texans are looking for a wild card birth and make the playoffs for the first time ever. The Texans schedule is a favorable one at that because they play many sub-par NFL teams.
On the other side of the ball there’s a ton of potential with some young studs in Mario Williams, DeMeco Ryans, Dunta Robinson and Amobi Okoye. If they can get it right, results in Houston will come.
Whatever the case may be, the Texans looked revitalized during their week two game against the Titans in Tennessee. Matt Schaub looked as good as he’s ever looked, with over 350 passing yards and a total of 4 TD passes.
With an opening week game at home against the Jets, the Texans disappointed their fan base with a loss. During the loss, the Texans showed an inability to score, and followers of the team were obviously let down. However, looking at it that way the Jets did the same thing to Tom Brady and the Patriots, perhaps the Jets defense is simply terrific this year.
Looking at the week 2 result for the Houston Texans shows that the team was able to rebound from a tough game, playing very efficient football in Tennessee against the Titans. Everything clicked offensively for the Titans during their week 2 game. Matt Schaub had over 350 yards in the air at quarterback and reached the end zone four times. Andre Johnson was phenomenal at wide receiver, and backup WR Jacoby Jones did a nice job filling in for Kevin Walter.
The defense could have done better without a doubt, the team came away with a very difficult win against the Titans in Nashville. The Titans are now 0-2, opening the way for the Texans to attempt to rise to the top of the NFC South.
Every year teams rise that were thought of to be mediocre, teams fall that were thought of being very good. It will be interesting to see how the Texans respond to expectations for the first time in the franchises history. To be the team, they must beat the team - that team now is the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South Division.
